Meet the Candidates: Judge Chris Taylor and Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez
The 2026 election cycle is already picking up speed, and Columbia County is at the center of the action. This month, we are honored to welcome two powerhouse leaders to our community: Judge Chris Taylor, candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, who is running to be our next Governor.
Both of these women represent a vision for Wisconsin that is grounded in fairness, healthcare access, and the protection of our fundamental rights. Here is a closer look at the leaders visiting us this January.
Judge Chris Taylor: A People-Centered Justice
When Judge Chris Taylor speaks about the law, she doesn't just talk about statutes; she talks about people. Currently serving on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, Judge Taylor is running for the state’s highest court to ensure it remains an independent check on power, rather than a tool for partisan agendas.
Why she matters for 2026:
A Champion for Safety: With a career-long focus on public safety and victims' rights, she has been a tireless advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Independence and Impartiality: Judge Taylor believes the courtroom should be a place where everyone—regardless of their background or political leaning—is heard and respected.
The Right Experience: From her decade in the State Assembly to her work as an attorney and judge, she brings a deep understanding of how the law affects the daily lives of Wisconsinites.
"Our courts must be places where people feel heard, respected, and treated equally under the law." — Judge Chris Taylor
Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez: A Nurse’s Vision for Governor
Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez is a problem-solver by trade. As a former ER nurse, public health official, and small business owner, she approaches policy through the lens of practical results rather than political shouting matches. Having visited all 72 Wisconsin counties every year of her term, she understands the unique challenges facing rural communities like ours.
Her Platform for Wisconsin:
Lowering Costs: From healthcare and prescription drugs to child care and utilities, Sara is focused on easing the "squeeze" on middle-class families.
Defending Freedom: As a nurse, she is a staunch defender of reproductive rights, pledging to enshrine these protections into state law.
Investing in the Future: Her vision includes fully funding public schools, supporting our "future-ready" economy, and ensuring our natural resources and clean water are protected for generations to come.
Accountability and Safety: Most recently, she has called for statewide standards for federal enforcement agencies, ensuring that "sensitive locations" like schools and hospitals remain safe for all neighbors.
