Lodi Forward Seeks Volunteers for August 29 ‘Visibility Demonstration’

Lodi Forward is looking for volunteers for a Visibility Demonstration on August 29!

Background:
On August 28, 1963, more than 250,000 people participated in the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom." This was the march where the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic "I Have a Dream Speech."

Who We Are: Lodi Forward is an inclusive group of proactive residents promoting the common good while moving our community toward a more just and equitable future.

What We're Planning:
Nationally, to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the march, a broad coalition of civil rights, faith, and labor organizations are planning a NON-VIOLENT "March on Washington 2026: Defend the Vote" on August 28.

Locally, we are joining those efforts on Saturday, August 29th. We will march from our rallying location in Lodi to the main intersection downtown to hold a demonstration reminding everyone of their right to vote. At this moment, our right to vote without fear, intimidation, and interference is under increasing threat from forces within the federal government and politicians and conservative "think tanks" at the state level. It is time to remind them that our right to vote is sacred and not to be interfered with!

When: Saturday, August 29th. Time and place to be announced soon. Watch this space for details.

What We Need: Volunteers to help set up the rally location, march marshals to help direct demonstrators and traffic as we cross streets, de-escalators for counter-protestors, and photographers and videographers to better record the event. And, of course, participants for the rally and march!
