MN Sen. Erin P. Murphy Offers Fiery Keynote at CoCo Dems Annual Dinner

Senator Erin P. Murphy delivered a powerful, deeply personal call to action grounded in democracy, courage, and community. Speaking as a Wisconsin native and Minnesota Majority Leader, she connected her family roots, nursing career, and political journey to the values that shape Democratic organizing: standing up for people, doing the hard work, and believing change is possible.

Murphy pointed to Minnesota’s recent Democratic successes as proof that when Democrats are ready to govern, they can deliver meaningful results, including paid family and medical leave, universal school meals, stronger public schools, and investments in public safety and local communities.

At the same time, she warned of the dangers of political violence, extremist policies, attacks on democratic institutions, and government actions that harm working families, immigrants, and vulnerable communities. She also spoke passionately about healthcare affordability, hospital stability, and the urgent need for gun violence prevention, including a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Her central message was clear: Democrats must organize, persuade, knock doors, invest their time and resources, and win decisively. The future, she argued, will be shaped not by fear or cruelty, but by people willing to fight together for justice, freedom, and opportunity.

  • Democracy and participation: Murphy emphasized votes, voices, persuasion, and grassroots organizing as the tools that shape the future.

  • Personal roots and public service: She tied her Wisconsin upbringing, nursing background, and family values to her life in advocacy and elected office.

  • Democratic achievements: She highlighted paid leave, universal school meals, stronger schools, public safety, and community investment.

  • Political violence and extremism: She condemned assassination, intimidation, and fear as threats to democracy.

  • Healthcare and economic security: She stressed affordable care, support for hospitals, and relief for families facing rising costs.

  • Gun violence prevention: She called for stronger action, including banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

  • Urgency for Wisconsin and beyond: She urged Democrats to organize now, win majorities, and be ready to govern boldly.

The audience met Murphy’s remarks with strong approval.
