Results of CoCo Dems Survey #1
What You Told Us: Democracy, Health Care and Public Schools Top the List
We recently completed the first of three surveys of our members and supporters, and one message came through loud and clear: 95% of respondents are very concerned about the direction of our country.
What’s weighing most heavily on their minds? Three issues rose to the top:
Protecting democracy and voting rights
Affordable health care and access to hospitals
Funding our public schools
Respondents ranked these issues above concerns such as clean energy, gas prices and data centers—suggesting that they’re thinking not only about the challenges we face today, but about issues that could shape our communities and our country for years to come.
We also found an interesting disconnect between which levels of government have the greatest impact on people’s lives and how effectively people think those governments are working. Respondents told us that state and federal government have a greater impact on their lives than local or county government. But when we asked how well government is addressing the issues they care about, the federal government received by far the lowest marks: 71% said it is “not at all effective.” State, county and local governments fared considerably better, with more than half of respondents rating them as either “very” or “somewhat” effective at addressing the issues that matter to them.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate. These surveys aren’t just an exercise—we’ll use what we learn to help shape our priorities and communications. We’ll also share the findings with candidates in Columbia County so they can hear directly what survey respondents say matters most.
And we’re not done yet.
Watch for our next survey, which will focus on the Democratic Party—locally, statewide and nationally. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to tell us what you think.
